While it’s always scary to claim something as “final”, we’ve done a huge amount of testing and fixing during two months since the initial release. I’m very proud of this one. To quote a comment on PCGamer’s article about the release:

Thanks to Andrew Stine for digging up this old newsgroup post, where on Christmas day 1997 I list suggestions for what to do with the Doom source code, which was released 2 days earlier. This comment seems especially relevant now, as it eventually turned true a mere 21 years later:
IF there is to be a new “official” IWAD or something, with new textures and/or monsters/sprites, this is to be ALL NEW STUFF. No ripping from any other games, and it all has to look AT LEAST id quality, as mentioned before in the newsgroups. I support the idea of a team being put together to do this, but I think it would be better if a new texture wad only was released. It’d be easier, and its needed, since most of us are getting a bit fed up with the original textures. They’re not bad, but hey… it’s been 4 years 🙂
